Debotakhum is one of the most eye-soothing places as a tourist attraction. It is located in the Royangchari Upazilla in Bandarbaan.

The word KHUM means “water reservoir” surrounded by hills and rocks. There are other khums in Bandarbaan but Debotakhum is the only khub that can be visited within a day or less. 

It can be a thrilling experience for both nature lovers and trekkers.

  • When to visit:

You can visit Debotakhum in any season. In the rainy season, you may find the paths more slippery. Also, there is a huge risk of flash floods during the rainy season. So it is a better option to choose any time before or after the rainy season.

  • Papers to take:

You must carry a copy of your NID and 2 passport-sized photos of you. You need them to get your permission and documents at the police station in Rowangchari.

  • Transport:

You can start your journey by getting on the direct bus to Bandarbaan. Hanif and Saintmartin are the options for the AC bus (average cost rate would be TK.1500). Hanif and S. Alam are the options for the non-AC bus (average cost rate would be TK.800).

If you want to go by train, you will have to go to Chattagram first, and from there you will have to take a bus to Bandarbaan. Seat cost on the train can vary from TK.350 to TK.1300. From the bus terminal of Chattagram you can find a bus to Bandarbaan. Here the average cost would be TK.200.

Next stop KACCHAPTALI, ROWANGCHARI.

You can take a CNG or jeep (CHANDER GAARI) from Bandarbaan City to Rowangchari. By CNG the average cost would be TK. 700.

You can reserve a jeep for 10/12 people which would cost you TK. 2000-2500.

You must clear your documents to get permission there at the Army Camp of Kacchaptali. The permission form will cost TK. 50.

After reaching the destination, you should take a guide for the destination, Debotakhum. One guide will take 10 people under his guidance. Each guide would take TK. 1000 per day.

Other than this, you would need TK. 200 for the lifejacket, raft, etc. Also, as the path to Debotakhum is steep and rocky, you should buy rubber sandals from the local market which would cost you TK. 150.

It will take almost 2 hours of trekking to reach Debotakhum. On the way, you will find the Shilbandha Para and water flowing path.

Walking through this serene nature would make an unforgettable experience.

  • Where to eat:

There is actually no place to eat on the way to Debotakhum. You can have lunch after coming from the trek at the market in Kacchaptali. But you need to make a reservation before going. Your guide can help you with this.

  • daal (pulse)
  • sobji
  • Cautions to take:
  • You must carry a copy of identification paper to report at the Army Camp.
  • If you don’t know how to swim, then you should be very cautious.
  • You’ll find a lifejacket on your way to Debotakhum. Remember to take one.
  • You won’t have any network after passing through Kacchaptali.
